Spotlight on: Sweet On You!

Treat your Valentine, or indulge yourself, with one of these sweet treats at the market…

If you’re not already won over by the beautiful packaging of Costello & Hellerstein chocolates, you will be by the contents! Indulgent hand-made truffles include sea salt caramel, raspberry and coconut, hazelnut praline and dark chocolate and orange. There’s also a rather good range of flavoured fudge to choose from too.

You don’t have to miss out if you’re gluten free – Fair & Square Brownies have a wonderful selection of brownies, all gluten free and all utterly delicious. We’re sold on the salted caramel and cheesecake but you might like to try raspberry chocolate for Valentine’s Day! The limited edition tins make a perfect gift too.

You can’t go far wrong with cupcakes and Nom Nom Cupcakery are the cupcake kings. Made using local ingredients, flavours include Red Velvet, Vanilla Red Rose and Chocolate & Salted Caramel. The macaroon towers are pretty special too.

The Salt Bakehouse have been creating a storm with their vast selection of sourdoughs, but the cakes and pastries are worth popping over for too. Try the Honeycomb and Chocolate Mousse cruffin (a cross between a muffin and croissant) or the gorgeous Raspberry brownies, gooey chocolate cakes dusted with beautiful pink raspberry dust.

New to the market are Tuga Pastries, a stall dedicated to the famous Portuguese egg tarts, Pastel De Nata. The cakes are made by José Cardoso to his mum’s Portuguese recipe, but using locally sourced ingredients, and they recently won Best Small Cake at the Quality Food Awards 2017.

The ever popular Pippins Doughnuts are bringing two new Valentine’s flavours to the market on 17th February: Raspberry and Chocolate (raspberry jam-filled doughnut with a chocolate glaze) and Chocolate and Strawberry (chocolate dough ring doughnut with a strawberry glaze). Decisions, decisions…

There are some hot new flavours at Katie Crunch Fudge this February. The limited edition White Chocolate & Rose Petal gives a romantic nod to February 14th, while the new Café Latte, a creamy white chocolate base with ground coffee swirled through, and the Dark Chocolate & Chili will keep you buzzing!

There are more gluten free goodies at Jack’s Bakes. As well as the rather delicious Bakewell tarts, there’s carrot cakes, cookies and a very special Chocolate & Raspberry cupcake – all vegan and very, very good for valentine’s Day!

There’s a gorgeous array of cakes on offer at Hetty’s Tea Party, just perfect for an afternoon tea party à deux! Favourites include fudgy chocolate brownies, pretty meringues, tempting tarts, luscious loaf cakes and seriously good traybake slices.

Cakes and confectionary is what you’ll find at Cake Aspirations. Cake-maker Beccy Whittal uses local ingredients to produce her incredible creations, including her delicious range of fudge. With about 20 flavours, there’s enough to keep you for a good few weeks or more!
