Ripened by the warmth of the summer sun, Mediterranean ingredients such as peppers, tomatoes, courgettes and aubergines are now at their best. Bursting with flavour, try them roasted in a classic melanzane recipe or simmered down into a rich tomato ragu.

Golden corn on the cobs are also ripe for the picking, as are plums, apricots and blackberries. There’s also just time to enjoy the last of our English strawberries and runner beans – it’s a case of get them while you can!

Look out for new crop potatoes, leeks and onions and try the fantastic variety of beetroot that’s on offer, from traditional reds to golden yellows and the beautiful candy stripe beetroot – they all look spectacular finely sliced into salads.

Autumn is all about apples and pears and our new season fruit is now starting to make an appearance. Over the next few weeks new varieties of apples and pears will be available as the season picks up, ready for our Apple Day celebrations on 17th October. Get ready for apple pies, crumbles and cobblers and lots of freshly pressed juice!
