There’s a reason this time of year celebrates the harvest festival – it’s when our home-grown produce is booming.
We’ve still got fresh and fruity apples, pears and some berries, but we’re now coming into root vegetable season. Pumpkin, celeriac, swede, turnip, parsnip – they’re all fantastic roasted, mashed, casseroled or curried. Look out for heritage carrots in a rainbow of colours, earthy beetroot and fragrant fennel. Forage for woody mushrooms leafy herbs and salads, and serve up the best roasties for your Sunday lunch!
