In Season
O’ tis the season to be joyful with all manner of fresh produce flooding our stalls over the next few weeks. Here are some of the highlights…
Besley’s Strawberries: the welcome return of these strawberries signals the start of the season. Cliff Besley has over 20,000 strawberry plants and is always a sell-out every Saturday. You can still catch the sweet and peachy sunrise varieties, but later strawberries include vibrant, elegance and sonata, available until the end of August.
Over Farm: we welcome back Over Farm after a short hiatus, with their stall full of homegrown rhubarb and asparagus. Over the next few weeks, expect to see strawberries, raspberries, beets including the pretty golden and rainbow varieties, courgettes and sweetcorn in August.
Duncan Paget & Co: there’s plenty to keep you going already on this stall but exciting new season produce to look out for in the next couple of weeks include broad beans, purple cauliflower and the striking romanesco broccoli. Towards the mid/end of June, there’ll be new potatoes, onions and kohlrabi, a root vegetable that you can stir fry, roast or use raw in salads, as well as rainbow chard, a vibrant leaf that goes well fried with garlic and onion.
Styan Family Produce: from this family farm in Evesham, you can expect some of the best asparagus in the country. Other highlights include fresh beets, salad leaves and new potatoes as well as ten varieties of tomatoes. Keep an eye out for the arrival of the soft fruit over the coming weeks beginning with white, red and black currants and all types of berries, followed by 15 varieties of plums and 10 different apples!
Court Farm: we’re anticipating the arrival of Court Farm as soon as their soft fruit is ready, hopefully in the next two to three weeks. Most of you will know this as the cherry stall and from July, this is where we’ll be getting our home-grown cherry fix every week! Before that though, expect glorious strawberries and raspberries, gooseberries, rhubarb, red and black currants, tayberries and blueberries.
Coleshill Organics: this is the season to enjoy our home-grown organic produce at its finest. At this popular stall you can find asparagus, new potatoes, broad and runner beans, spring onion, bunched carrots and mange tout, all perfect for the weekly stir fry. One of the highlights is the billowing selection of mixed salad leaves which include mizuna, rocket, mustard, endive and chard. Bring your own containers and fill with your favourites!
