There are root vegetables galore at the market, with carrots, parsnips, turnips, swede, beets and celeriac on offer, as well as the ubiquitous potato and onion – the perfect mix for a warming winter stew, a steaming soup or vegan curry.

Then there are the winter greens – an array of cabbages, kales, Brussels sprouts, leeks, cauliflower and spinach still going strong. Great accompaniments for the Christmas lunch and the Sunday roast. Discover how to cook up some ‘Glorious Greens’ in the Chef’s Recipe from Bisley House Café & Bar

Apples and pears that have been lovingly cold stored (no nasty nitrogen gases here!) will still be good into the new year, as well as fresh apple juice, and of course, ciders.

You can buy fresh, seasonal produce this season from the following stalls: Coleshill Organic Farm, Styan’s Family Produce, Duncan Paget & Co, Newark Farm, Hotch Potch Organic and Days Cottage.
