Market News
Lucky old us!!
It’s British Sausage Week this week and thanks to that wonderful market down at the Cornhill Square every Saturday plus Tony the Butchers in Kendrick Street there is an absolutely massive range of Bangers available to the townsfolk of Stroud on Saturday.
At the market we have 4 meat farmers this Saturday and each one has their own range of bangers; Frocester Fayre one of the market’s original traders, have a fabulous range of Pork Sausages ( Farmhouse, Farmhouse Chipolatas, Old Berkeley, Pork & Apple, Glosters, Pork & Garlic, Pork & Cider), Lamb sausages (Lamb & Rosemary, Lamb & Mint) and Beef sausages (Beef, Mushroom & Horseradish, Beef & Guinness) and a Gluten Free sausage so you could do worse than starting your banger hunt there! Further on round we find Adey’s Farm from Berkeley, a certified Organic producer whose Old Spot pigs provide them with a great range of sausages which are available in packs or in a roll off the barbecue. By the caff this Saturday you will find The Stowe herd (rather confusingly from Stowe in the Forest of Dean not Stow on the Wold!). Steve also rears Old Spot pork and his sausages are always a hit, with a ready bowl of tasters waiting to tempt you.
Finally, out by the entrance you will find the flame barbecue of Hinton Marsh farm, cooking up a range of their gourmet range of sausages. The Hinton Marsh sausages come from the little ginger Tamworth pigs reared on the farm in Bourton. The gourmet sausage range is called Gourmet because the sausages contain NO FAT or indeed any of the OFFAL that reputedly goes into your cheap supermarket sausage. Made from cuts of loin and shoulder these sausages are MEATY and very popular with customers; imagine, a non-fattening sausage! To celebrate sausage week they will be making (all by hand) Old English Classic, Plain pork and Breakfast varieties plus their famous spicy bangers; Hot and Spicy or Oak smoked Chilli and Paprika. Get them off the bbq or in packs of 4 or 6.
