Who is behind Pippin Doughnuts? There is a small and wonderful team of six people in addition to myself and Mario who owns the business.

How did Pippin Doughnuts come about? The idea for Pippin Doughnuts came about in 2007 when two patisserie chefs decided to come up with a recipe for the very best possible gourmet doughnut and many hours were spent trying out and perfecting the recipe until they were satisfied.

There’s a real buzz about Pippin Doughnuts – what makes your doughnuts so special?  I think what makes the doughnuts special is the love and care which is put into making them; it is a very labour intensive process with the dough being prepared the day before and proven twice for optimum quality. We take great pride in the product that we make and want to make sure that it is the very best it can be. We use the best quality ingredients and local whenever possible such as milk from Jess’ Ladies, eggs from Paxcroft Farm, flour from Wessex Mill and fruit from Court Farm and Leisure.

How many flavours do you make?  We make over 30 different flavours and sell out every week at Stroud market!

What is your most popular flavour?  Many people ask us that. The truth is everyone has a personal favourite. The classic Mixed Berry Jam is one of the fillings that we sell most of. Our double seasonal fillings are equally popular – with fresh strawberries in season, the Strawberries and Cream is selling well. We have been trying out some new fillings also such as the Chocolate and Hazelnut and Tiramisu. It always causes excitement when we bring out a new flavour – people are so enthusiastic, it really is great and definitely gives you that extra buzz which is particular nice when you stand in the kitchen at 2am on a cold and frosty January morning!

Are your fillings homemade? We make all of our fillings and glazes from scratch using fruit from local farms whenever possible.

Which flavour should visitors to the market try next? Lime and Coconut has been voted one of the ‘doughnuts to eat before you die’ by Buzzfeed!
